Here’s a different commission for me, a watercolour painting of the first, 1960, ‘JCB 4’ Backhoe Loader. With lots of detail wanted of the mechanics in the rear. It has been set working on the cliffs at Orcombe Point, with the Exe Estuary beyond.
The Painting
The painting was approximately A4. I drew up the JCB from reference photos that were supplied. My drawing was then pushed through, using graphite transfer paper onto Arches, Aquarelle 140lb watercolour paper, that I had stretched onto MDF board. I was using Winsor & Newton, watercolour tubes of paints with several different round brushes.
