Sketches
Watercolour sketching at beautiful Polzeath, on the north Cornish Coast.
These are two sketches are from different days, but both around the August Bank Holiday.
Early Evening Surf
Watercolour & fineliner pen ~ a tad smaller than A4.
This sketch shows the early evening light on the beach. With the tide rushing in and surfers in the water enjoying the last of the days sunshine.
Not for sale
Staying down on the North Cornish Coast. We are four families all crammed into a small, borrowed cottage. J & I are in our sleeping bags on the lounge floor, but all very jolly and good fun. We spent a great day on Polzeath beach, which was pretty thick with people. However, we enjoyed ourselves bodyboarding and playing on the beach.
Materials Used
Both of these sketches are on Daler Rowney, Langton, ‘Not’ watercolour paper. I’ve used my Winsor & Newton, watercolour field paint box, a large Pro Art no.20 brush, and two smaller ones – sable no.6 & a no.1. I’ve also used a waterproof fineliner pen.

Pasty’s for tea
Popped down to Cornwall for a quick Bank Holiday visit and a catch up with J’s family.
Polzeath was pretty packed. No mobile reception here, so after a little bit of hunting we found them all encamped on the beach. Suncream on and then we could enjoy ourselves. The ‘little fella’ and Alex were busy making dams in the river and climbing rocks. Some of us went bodyboarding, trying to catch some waves. Pretty good surf today and everyone was enjoying it!
Pasty’s for tea and the ‘little fella’ sleeping in the car as we drive home. Not so good for getting him to sleep later on tonight!
